On Friday, March 13th my students walked out of the school and I gave each of them a huge hug. Little did I know. My students are currently learning from home in an area that is a hot spot for COVID 19. Libraries are closed and families are not going places. The biggest fear I have is that my students don't have access to books. Most of my students do not have access to continuous technology. I am less worried about than, than I am access to physical books to read. Second graders need to have these in their hands.
Having a home library is a privilege. This privilege is not one that all families can afford. Most students come to school ready to read the various books provided.
When school let out on Friday March 13th, some student walked away from the only lifeline they had to a literacy rich environment.
I would like to send each of my students a series to read during this time, so they can still practice their reading skills during distance learning.
A love of reading has no boundary. At school or at home, student should be able to snuggle up with a good book.
