My Project

All of my students have autism and need the extra support at school. All 10 of my special education students benefit from being in a classroom that can provide one-on-one and small group instruction.

I started this position with only the items that I've acquired over the years as a preschool and kindergarten teacher.

Well, now my students are in 1st and 2nd grade and the materials I have are not sufficient to help them grow. My team and I are dedicated to holding my students at a high standard and without the necessary tools, my students will be left to fall behind. My budget is only $200 for the year and that barely covers supplies. This donation will change the trajectory of my students' skills, and possibly their education direction, as it's my goal for them to be included in general education classes for most of the day.

I'm planning on using the readers in a "take-home reading" program that I've created. It'll be brand new for my students (I've had the same students in my self-contained classroom since they were in kindergarten; now they're in 1st and 2nd grade). I will assess their reading and comprehension level to figure out what book to start them with. They will keep that same book at home until they can read the book without support and can answer a few comprehension questions. Once they can read the book on their own and answer the questions correctly, they will return the book with a signed log from their guardian that they're ready to test with me and possibly get the next book in the series. The other literacy tools will be used to support small group instructions to develop these skills.

The other tools are also for instruction support.
