Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a self-contained special education classroom that has students with mild to moderate disabilities, including autism, speech and language, emotional, learning, and intellectual disabilities. The majority of my students are also English Language Learners. They are hardworking and, despite their challenges, have a desire to learn! Each student is a unique individual who brings joy to our classroom. Our school is a Title I school where over 90% of our students receive free or reduced meals. In my classroom each student receives free breakfast and free lunch. Our school is unique as we have a large population experiencing homelessness.

My students love experiencing new things and having hands on experiences!

My students actively participate in the school community and are enjoying learning. This year my students are all new to my class! This group is even more unique as most of my students are entering their first year in a special day class!

My Project

My students love learning about history! They also love learning about animation! Specifically, they have a strong interest in anything and everything Disney related! The Walt Disney Family museum offers all of that and more! We were fortunate to receive a scholarship to cover the cost of the admission for the field trip, but we do not have the funds to pay for the bus to get us there! Without help from amazing donors, we will have to cancel this field trip!

For my students this is likely their only chance to experience Disney Magic!

I’m addition, for many of them they have never been to San Francisco! This trip will be a one in a lifetime experience!
