My Project

My students are awesome! They all come from diverse backgrounds, but they come ready to learn and soak up new experiences. Although our school is in a rural community, we have a diverse population of students. Many of our students are fairly new to our country and are just learning to speak English. My classroom is a place where kids can come together to learn and have fun regardless of their differences or needs. Throughout the school year, we work hard to improve academically, socially, and emotionally, and we build relationships within the community.

My students will be given a box with random items to create rockets, cars, boats, and bridges.

In our STEM challenges, my students will need to work together to research, hypothesize, experiment, and create working models.

I am challenging my students to use their imaginations, scientific knowledge, and a box of "junk" to create a variety of devices that perform an assortment of tasks.

My students enjoy hands-on learning and love to use their imaginations. The junk box challenges will teach them how to work with others, the benefits of trial and error, analyze their own work, and make changes based on their findings. Through the scientific method, they will create a tool or machine that completes the challenge.
