My Students

My library serves 7-12 grade students. Early in the year when my 7th grade students arrive, they are somewhat lost when it comes to finding books that fit their reading level, as well as their reading tastes. It is very important that as early as possible, I get a great book in their hands, one that piques their interest and also fits their abilities. Their reading success in later years could very well hinge on the success I have early in their junior high years in making reading connections with these students.

My Project

When my seventh grade students arrive the first day of school each year, they are somewhat lost in our 7-12 grade library. Sometimes they end up selecting books above their level or interest. Because of the complexity of some of these books, my seventh graders can become discouraged and disinterested in reading.

Having a display specifically for junior high students with books to support their reading levels and interests will help me get the right books in the right hands!

Students are beginning to figure out what genre suits them and what kind of books are their favorites. I want to feed their book appetites with books which appeal to them individually. This display will help me do that!
