Junie B. Takes a Trip to the Theatre

Help me give my students the experience of live theatre. The Walnut Street Theatre always has wonderful shows for children. This play is grade level appropriate content in connection for the books we read in class.

My Students

Our school is in a high poverty area of a large urban school district. Our school in particular is almost 50% ESOL population. We service students from 36 different countries. The school is a kindergarten-8th-grade school. The students try very hard to do their best with limited English proficiency. For the most part, they pick up the English language pretty quickly. The teachers in our school do their best to assist all students.

Our team does a great job supporting these students, even though we face a variety of challenges each day.

Even with challenges in our classrooms such as extreme heat or cold, lack of supplies, overcrowded classrooms, etc, we endure and do our best to provide quality experiences and learning to our students. When we have the generosity of others who help us, like you, It makes working in our rooms a little easier.

My Project

I teach ELL students on a third grade level. Since they are new to the country, I try to give them as many experiences to learn back ground knowledge as possible. Junie B. Jones is a third grade book that we have read in class.

The play will make the Junie B Jones books come alive for my students.

My students will use listening skills as well as being able to compare and contrast the book and the play. This is something my students will not only enjoy but they will learn very much from! I cannot wait to see the look of joy on all of their faces.
