I teach a K-2 Self-Contained Adapted Curriculum Special Education class. My class consists of six students. Three are in kindergarten, one is in first grade, and two are in second grade. My students have varying disabilities from Down Syndrome, Autism, Significant Developmental Delay, to Moderate Intellectual Disabilities. We work daily on important life long skills that will help to make them successful (hygeine, basic counting and alphabet, coping, etc). Half of my students are nonverbal and are not yet toilet trained.
My Project
As a self-contained classroom, we do everything in class! We eat, have music and art, and even exercise in our room. My students need an outlet to get some energy out during the day. Since we are a class of varying ages and our school is large, we are not assigned a "PE" time and do not have access to the gym. Any physical education is taught by me. My students need a way to get their energy out during the day. Especially if we are unable to go outside due to weather. My students need a fold-n-go trampoline to develop their gross motor skills. Not only would my students enjoy this, but it will help develop their gross motor skills that they struggle with.
