I have 24 unique and caring second graders that steal my heart every single day. They are loving and kind to each other. When we start the year off, most students only know a couple of friends in the classroom. By the end of the year, we have built a family that doesn't want the year to end. Every single day we explore, learn, grow, smile and thrive in our classroom. The class is composed of 14 girls and 10 boys. My classroom has students with both academic and speech IEPs.
Our school serves students in grades k-2, with 16 teachers per grade level.
The district is very large and is made up of a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. We provide the students with hands-on learning and a variety of approaches to learning.
My Project
The objects requested are STEM based material to build with during recess time and other free time. The magnetic blocks and kinetic sand allow for the students to make structures and objects that expand their thinking and learning. They also allow for students to work within groups and learn skills like working together as a team. Paints and other supplies allow for the students to be more active during recess. Using these items also promotes student interaction and sharing.
It is important to use hands-on items, such as the ones requested below, to help students learn to share and build things together as a group.
Using the objects submitted will help the students learn and grow within the classroom. These objects will be useful towards all the students in the classroom in various ways. For the lower students, working in a group and learning off of other students is so beneficial for them. For the higher level students, building and creating with these objects is right up their alley! I would love to see my students get to utilize these tools in the classroom. The other items requested are basic supplies needed for the classroom that would help us out tremendously. Privacy walls are something that we have been in need of for quite some time now. It is important to give the students their own working spaces. The labels stickers are always useful to help label the students' items in the classroom. These items are always helpful tools to help make the classroom more organized, which in return helps build a classroom conducive to learning. Having items like the sand and bubble makers for indoor and outdoor recess allows for the students to play, rather than sit on the computers and not interact with other students.
