My Students

I teach at a Title 1 school in Western North Carolina where 85% of students receive reduced price or free breakfast and lunch. My students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Students need a conducive environment where they feel comfortable and ready to learn.

Trying to find ways to keep my students engaged and learning can at times be difficult as many students have a hard time staying seated. Flexible seating options are one way to keep student focused and ready to learn.

My Project

Flexible seating allows students with the wiggles or attention problems to move freely without disturbing their classmates. The materials I am requesting will help my students who have trouble sitting still have a place where they can move while working. The bookcase nook will be perfect for storing reading materials while offering another flexible seating option. The convert-a-bench will be great for students to partner read together.

I have found over the years that if students are allowed to frequently move around or change their seating options, I get more quality work than if they are required to sit in one spot all day.

Each of these items will be new options for my classroom. I can't wait to see the excitement on my students faces. Donors Choose allows me to provide this opportunity for my students.
