We have a respectful and motivated student population; however, most come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and have little to no access to recreation facilities or centers due to cost and location. Most do not have the money to join team sports or to pay for school sports after school. Most of our students do not have access to healthy food as convenience stores at gas stations are their only option for snacks in their communities. We do not have a major grocery store. Most students are latchkey kids with both parents working. Most of our student population lives a sedentary lifestyle due to these factors.
Jump rope engages you physically and mentally. This is not mindless activity, students have to be engaged to be successful. Jump ropes can be used anywhere, even in limited space. They are a great workout and can be used many different ways. I need a class set in order to implement fun fitness activities and engage all students. It will also help improve my students coordination, motor skill development, and cardiovascular fitness. At our school we want to get our kids moving more during the winter months, this will help us get their heart rates up and keep them up during our short class hours during long winter days.
