JUMP Math Resources to Learn a Better Way of Teaching Math

My students need the new JUMP Math Common Core curriculum which the New Your Times calls the 'Better Way to Teach Math'.

My Students

Most Common Core instruction focuses on challenging students to make connections on their own but highly underestimates the necessary scaffolding incremental instruction required beforehand in order for students to make these connections.

My students are varied in their socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.

Some are considered well off, and some are living below the poverty line. I have students who are children of recent immigrants and are the first to learn English in their families, and I have students whose ancestors who have lived in America for many generations. The one thing they all have in common is that they want to learn and experience all the good that life can offer them.

My Project

The JUMP math program has shown proven success in increasing math success for students. This program will give me the resources as a teacher to align my teaching with the Common Core while also providing the necessary instruction to help students have individual success and understanding.

Imagine a grown adult at a social gathering announcing, "Yeah, I'm illiterate." This seems highly unlikely due to the negative stigma that creates.

Yet adults are frequently known to say "I'm no good at math." Just like learning to read, students need appropriate encouragement to feel successful and the right incremental teaching steps to help them decode the mathematical language. The Jump math curriculum is created to give teachers the tools to teach in this positive way.
