My students need 30 swivel-handle jump ropes to participate in a weekly circuit training which I created called “Jump Around the World.” Also needed is a world map and a pencil sharpener for recording progress.
The children in my class live in a high poverty community. Many of them are refugees whose families have escaped their homelands in search of a better life in the U.S.A. Most all of my students are English language learners. Some do not speak any English at all when they enter through my doorway. For some of my students, this is the first time that they have ever been enrolled in school.
They may come from all over the world, but one thing that my students have in common is that they love coming to school each day.
My classroom provides a safe and happy environment in contrast to the challenges that my students and their families endure daily. Many of them have expressed that they would rather be at school than at home.
My Project
My students need 30 swivel-handle jump ropes to participate in a weekly physical education activity which I created called “Jump Around the World.” "Jump Around the World" is a circuit training activity which I produced to motivate my students to exercise. Throughout a timed rotation, students travel to each continent wherein they participate in a different jump rope exercise.
Activities have been carefully designed to provide a rigorous workout of aerobic exercise, muscle strengthening, rhythmic skills development, coordination, and balance.
Children enjoy jumping, skipping, hopping, and leaping their way across the world.
A world map will be displayed and used as a flow chart to direct the students to each activity.
Using a pencil and a goals chart, students will record their progress at predetermined times during their circuit training. The children will monitor and track their progress throughout the year.
