Julius Caesar: Laudable Hero or Pompous Pretender?
My students need 40 complete copies of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar text as well as 10 class copies of "No Fear Shakespeare" to help struggling readers with interpretation.

My Students
"Life begins at the end of your comfort zone". The reading, interpretation, translation, and analysis of Julius Caesar will force my students outside of their comfort zones, where they will begin to understand what they are capable of.
My students are a group of kids who have enormous potential yet to be uncovered.
These kids have been through more than I can ever imagine in their short 16 years of life, yet they come to school each and every day with no complaints and smiles on their faces. My kids know how to work hard and want to be successful, but there is often a disconnect between the desire for success and what exact steps need to be taken to reach that success.
My Project
By having an actual copy of Julius Caesar in front of them each day, my students will be able to better understand the message Shakespeare is trying to get across. We will be doing extensive work translating from Shakespeare's English to Standard English, so it will be helpful for students to have books to be able to annotate and jot down notes in. We will also be doing a few lessons on Black English Vernacular and comparing it to Shakespeare's English, and having copies of "No Fear Shakespeare" will assist in these lessons.
My students will be pushed outside of their comfort zones each and every day they read and dissect Julius Caesar.
The sky is the limit for my students, but they have been passed along for so long that this potential cannot be seen from the surface, even in the eyes of the students themselves. By pushing themselves to comprehend and analyze a text that contains unfamiliar language, they will understand what they are capable of and push themselves to the absolute limit in order to achieve success.
