Juggling for Happiness

My students need juggling materials including clubs, balls, poi, and a unicycle.

My Students

This year we started a juggling club at my school. But we need more juggling materials than the basic beanbag balls we have right now.

Our students are a wonderful bunch of kids.

They attend a small high school for at-risk students. As one of our kids said, "We have a lot of different personalities here, but one thing we have in common is that high school just didn't work out for us for some reason." Despite the challenges our students face in school and life, our school holds them to high academic and social expectations. We also provide a safe and loving place for kids to work. When our students graduate, many of them describe our school as a lifesaver. It's a very special place to teach!

My Project

The items we request to enhance our juggling club will give our students the opportunity to learn a variety of fun and memorable lifelong skills. Right now we only practice three and four ball juggling. But our kids want to learn much more - bounce juggling, juggling clubs, spinning poi, and unicycle riding! Doesn't that sound like fun? But there's more - not only will juggling potentially bring more happiness and joy into the lives of our students, recent research shows that juggling stimulates the growth of white and grey matter in the brain! As a math teacher, I'm all for that. :) Learning to juggle also teaches perseverance, patience, and the satisfaction of working long and hard towards a goal and then ultimately achieving it. Finally, for those students who really enjoy it, juggling keeps our kids involved in a healthy, positive social activity. These additional materials will keep the students interest alive for a very long time.

As one local master juggler says: "Life is a struggle if you can't juggle!" With your help our school's juggling club can move beyond the world of juggling three or four beanbag balls and into a world of spinning clubs, bounce juggling, and unicycle riding.
