Juggling for Happiness 2013-2014

My students need four of "World's Finest Juggling Kit", each of which comes with three high-quality juggling balls.

My Students

Last year we started a juggling club at my school. We'd like these juggling ball kits as a reward for students who show a high level of commitment to juggling practice.

Our students are a wonderful bunch of kids.

They attend a small high school for at-risk students. As one of our kids said, "We have a lot of different personalities here, but one thing we have in common is that high school just didn't work out for us for some reason." Despite the challenges our students face in school and life, our school holds them to high academic and social expectations. We also provide a safe and loving place for kids to work. When our students graduate, many of them describe our school as a lifesaver. It's a very special place to teach.

My Project

The juggling kits we request will give our students an incentive to dedicate themselves for deeply to learning a variety of juggling skills. Right now most students who come to the juggling club regularly practice three and four ball juggling. But there's much more to learn, such as bounce juggling, juggling clubs, spinning poi, and unicycle riding. Doesn't that sound like fun? Not only will juggling potentially bring more happiness and joy into the lives of our students, recent research shows that juggling stimulates the growth of white and gray matter in the brain! As a math teacher, I'm all for that. Learning to juggle also teaches perseverance, patience, and the satisfaction of working long and hard towards a goal and then ultimately achieving it. These juggling kits will be given as a reward to students who have shown the most dedication to learning a variety of juggling styles.

As one local master juggler says: "Life is a struggle if you can't juggle!" With your help our school's juggling club can provide rewards for those students who show a high level of commitment to juggling.
