My Project
I work in a Title I school with some of the most amazing, creative, and hard-working students. More than 60% of my students come from a lower socioeconomic home. Many of my students are ESL, two speak only Spanish, and several qualify for special education.
I have the best students, and I want to give them the best!
Because of the daily obstacles my students face, some of them find education very challenging. Many come to school without their basic needs being met, so it is hard for them to focus on math, science, or reading. I try to think outside of the box so that my kids are engaged and want to learn.
In fourth grade, we learn about the how a structure of an animal functions to support growth, reproduction, and survival. With this, we investigate a variety of animal adaptations and ways they survive in their environment.
Owl pellets are always a hit in my class!
In past years, my students have loved dissecting an owl pellet to learn what an owl ate. During this activity, students try to put the bone pieces together to identify the prey. We discuss the structures of an owl that allows it to eat, and we also talk about the structures of the prey.
