Joy, Laughter, & a Beautiful Place to Read

My students need an Elephant and Piggie classroom carpet so they are continually inspired to read and write! Elephant & Piggie Take home book bags will inspire my fledgling readers!

My Students

My students are amazing. They arrive at the doorstep of my classroom vastly different and yet uniquely the same. They are linguistically, economically, and culturally diverse; they possess different experiences and skill sets. But they all love school, "cute" things, and enjoy being happy with their friends.

My kiddos love to laugh, they love to read, and they ALL enjoy curling up with a good book.

They are giddy when we get new books, refer to books as our "friends," and cry if a book is damaged. They LOVE reading!

My Project

Mo Willems is a classroom hero! His texts follow my students on their journey from non-reader to independent reader. His illustrations and simple stories of friendship are inspiring to the kids and instrumental in turning young readers in authors themselves. A Mo Willems' character themed carpet will become the most popular reading spot in my classroom.

It will provide a unique space to enjoy the books—students will feel like they are IN the stories they are reading!

Students will engage in a variety of learning opportunities on the carpet: independent reading, buddy reading, reader's theater, and cross-age buddies. If you could see their faces light up when presented with a Mo Willems' book, or stuffed animal based on one his characters, you would overwhelmed at the idea of their joy when they walk into the classroom and see our new library/reading nook carpet! The companion will be borrowing books from my classroom library and reading them with family members. Using Elephant & Piggie themed Take Home Book Bags will be motivating and exciting!
