Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Tell me and I will forget. Show me and I will remember. Involve me and I will understand." My students deserve the opportunity to learn about the world way and fall in love with learning regardless of their circumstances.
Every morning I am greeted by 24 second-graders, anxious to start their day.
I teach in a dual immersion classroom, and my students are on their journey of becoming bi-literate in English and Spanish. Many of my students come from homes that, unfortunately, don't have the resources to provide them with opportunities to experience the joys of learning outside of school. They are active, creative, curious and excited to learn.
My Project
The books and subscription to Scholastic News that I have chosen will be put to great use, in our classroom library. I have carefully selected books that correlate with their guided reading levels. These books will assist students in further developing their English and Spanish language skills. They will allow all students to find books that are "just right" for them, and be able to feel successful while learning. The Scholastic News subscription will inspire students to dive into the world of Nonfiction and current events of the world. The AppleTv and speaker will tie in to our reading instruction as I will be able to mirror our e-books and be able to provide visuals of how to interact with text and dive deeper into the technology that the district has provided us with.
This project will improve our classroom, and create an environment in which students are excited to read.
Even my struggling readers will be able to find something that meets their needs and motivates them, instead of becoming frustrated with reading. Your donation will help my students grow as readers, not only this year but in many years to come. Thank you for considering this project!
