My Students

My students are very energetic and hands-on learners who come to school with a huge smile on their face, eager to start the day. This group of students are extremely curious about the world around them and how things are made or created.

Their constant excitement and curiosity inspires me to provide them with the best possible learning experiences.

My school is based in Fayetteville, North Carolina not far from Fort Bragg, the largest military base in the USA. We have a high population of military children in our school. Many of my students have a parent or sometimes even both parents who are serving in the US military and their home environment can be very unpredictable at times. I strive to provide my students with a stable and consistent environment that nurtures their learning and growth.

Unfortunately, we are not a Title I school, so we receive no additional funding. It is my goal to provide my students with the ability to discover new things at their fingertips through more technology in the classroom so that every student can be prepared for I would love to maintain the high academic standards that my students have come accustomed to.

My Project

Do you remember the first time you fell in love with history, eager to learn more? For me that love started the minute I opened a book to the past, that took me on a journey back in time. The 3rd graders in our school currently consists of 160 dedicated students from diverse backgrounds. Some of them dread the days we work on social studies instead of science, but the third grade teachers are hoping to change all of that.

We want to get our 3rd grade students excited about learning all there is to know about how people like them helped shape the world that we live in today.

Through the book "The Orphan of Ellis Island" they will travel back in time and get to experience the journey to America through the eyes of a 10 year old boy. They will be able to make even greater connections when they read the non-fiction book "What Was Ellis Island". They will be able to use the nonfiction text to gain background knowledge, which will help them comprehend the fictional novel that they are reading. We want to show our students that a book can take you on a journey to the past, exploring extraordinary places that you have never been before.
