Journals to Empower

Help me give my students basic school supplies, like notebooks, zipper pouch bags, and pencils, to complete their daily activities.

My Project

Journaling is a wonderful way to discover the power of one's individual writing voice and organize one's thoughts away from life's chaos. It's especially valuable for teenagers growing up in today's world of constant stress and noise. Journaling is also a way to give emerging writers confidence in their own abilities and writing voices. My students come from many different backgrounds and the stories they tell me consistently challenge and inspire me. I want them to be able to write down those stories this year. They'll be keeping a journal throughout the year filled with their thoughts, goals, descriptions and dreams. Every month, they will select one journal entry which they think best embodies their voice as a writer. They will be rewriting this journal entry using the writing strategies we learn class, and then they will publish their entry on a bulletin board or present it to their small group.

I want my students to be proud of their writing and build enough confidence in their writing voice to be able to share the strength of that voice with others.

The sanitizer and disinfectant wipes will help keep our area clean during our intense journaling.
