Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The high school students I teach are predominantly Latino and black (African American, African, and the Carribean) in and around the New York City area. Approximately 13% of the student population is special education classified and 31% English language learners. Students come from varied home backgrounds of immigrant parents, single-parent homes, foster homes, and grandparents as primary care providers. Scholars are continually curious and eager to learn new things and explore anything technology related. They are warm, compassionate and enjoying tinkering and creating. Our scholars need more knowledge in order to be future-ready and globally competitive. They need to learn how to be leaders.

My Project

Studies indicate that reflection is an important part of growth. The requested journals will be used in professional development and promote opportunities to get in touch with innermost thoughts. I can write about what worked and what would change in lessons. I can write about things that bother or annoy me. Journaling is important to promote critical thinking and problem solving so let's get writing. Additionally, the paint will be used as spray paint book cart therapy as they are happy and bright colors. Charging cords will be used to charge phones when other librarians come for professional development.

Creating a reflective and harmonious environment will help shine little rays of happiness into the school library learning commons and foster growth.

The journals can help foster social and emotional clarity and mental wellness. The journals will help focus thoughts and ideas. Thank you for your consideration, support, and time. When you can about public schools, you care about the future.
