Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in Second Grade. They include English Language Learners, Reclassified Els, and English Language Only students, and some of my students receive Special Education and Resource services. All students at my school receive free breakfast in the classroom and free lunch.
Due to COVID-19, we will be starting our school year online, and I want to make sure they have the materials they will need to be successful.
My students will have devices provided by the school if needed, but there are many other tools they will need in order to learn from the safety of their homes. I hope to be able to provide my students with these needed resources so that we can make the best use of our time together and they can be successful in their distance learning.
My Project
Second Grade is an important year as students transition from learning foundational skills in Math and Language Arts in the primary grades to creating a strong, broad foundation in upper elementary grades that they will build on throughout secondary school. As we are learning via distance learning, at least for the first part of the school year, I believe Math and Writing Journals will help my students connect to their learning and see their growth.
These journals will help my students practice their emerging Writing and Math skills in an organized, memorable format.
By the end of second grade, they will have a collection of stories and problem solving strategies that they can look back on in future years as they carry their new skills with them as they go on to third grade.
