My Students

When students walk through the door to my classroom, they know that something exceptional is about to happen. Expectations are high. They are safe. They are respected. They are a part of something. To their left and to their right are other young minds: critical thinkers, innovators, hard workers.

Oregon has the third largest class sizes in the country.

Despite this, my students show up to school day after day with a good attitude and a strong work ethic. They are hopeful and eager to learn new things with an open mind.

My Project

One of my classes is called "Society". In this course, we have combined American Government & Sociology to create a more holistic Civics experience for students.

Part of that experience involves multiple journalism units & projects.

In these projects, students research, investigate, discuss, and document. The goal is for students to find their voices, and to engage in civil discourse by hearing a variety of different perspectives. Our hope is for students to get out of their comfort zones, and to see the world through various new lenses. Rendering their ideas, their subjects, and their findings through digital video, photography, and printing will serve to enhance this experience even further.
