This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

My students are excited eighth graders, who are looking forward to being healthy this school year. This is their last year in junior high school, and beginning good habits this school year will allow them to translate those skills into their first year of high school.

My students are enthusiastic about being healthy and fit and need amazing resources to help them reach their individual goals. Helping them any way we can will allow my students to have confidence within themselves and all they do going forward.

Creating health journals and using exercising games will encourage my students to go the distance for their health. Students will be leaders within their classes. They will encourage their classmates to remain competitive as compared to the other classes as they monitor their health. In addition, they will be able to be models with their Fit Buddies as they inspire themselves as others to be successful.

Working together to come to a collaborative and healthy school year is a fantastic way to take ownership of their health and to make sure they are working their hardest this school year to foster good strategies for the next school year.

In Their Own Words

We have decided that getting healthy this year will be a year long mission. As a result, we plan to journal, play, walk, and eat our way to success. We watch our parents and other adults use wrist pedometers to be successful with their health, as they monitor their walking and chart their success. Us and our classmates need items like journals and pedometers to be able to do the same thing.

We will create and use Fit Journals to monitor our daily and weekly progress toward our individual health goals, such as walking daily for 60 minutes, or stretching and exercising during class.

We will be in charge of monitoring each others' progress through Fit Buddies. During school, we will use the discs and ball throwing game to make sure to stay active for 60 minutes during the day.

Using the washi tape and photo printer, we will decorate our journals with color and images of our active success to encourage ourselves and each other to continue journaling about our daily health feats. We will be rewarded, and advocate for others to be rewarded for journaling and succeeded from our fitness wins using healthy snacks that are nutrient rich and are organic and gluten free.
