This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Daily writing practice is so important for writing development.
I teach a gifted/high achieving group of first graders.
They come to first grade ready to be challenged. One area that they usually need most practice in is writing. We have a great writing program that exposes them to writing in an organized manner. I also like to provide them with a less structured time for them to write freely.
My Project
I am requesting the first set of writing journals for my students to practice daily (or at least three times a week) writing. Sometimes, I give them a topic and other times I let them choose a topic themselves. In the past, my students have truly enjoyed this time to express themselves. I am also requesting pencils appropriate for first grade hands.
I thank you in advance for your consideration in contributing to this classroom project.
Thanks to donors like you, I have been able to implement journal writing to my curriculum for a couple years now and the students have truly enjoyed and benefited from it.
