Journal, Folder and Scissors

My Students

The students in my class attend an urban school district with limited financial resources. Most of the students receive​ free or reduced-price lunches. Many of them have experienced crime in their lives and find it difficult to come to school. It can be overwhelming to know how to help. They are sweet kids with big dreams. They dream of learning, being successful athletes, helping their families, and reaching their full potential.

Many of these students must overcome obstacles such as poverty and uncertain home situations.

A high-quality educator can make a significant difference in a student’s life. When I look at my students, I see unlimited possibilities. Overall, my students living in poverty are just like other children, but they can encounter limitations and barriers that make it harder to learn, including students whose first language is not English. My main goal is to give each student the chance to have success in school and beyond.

My Project

Items that I am requesting specifically for my classroom for student use include a package of classroom scissors so we have more to share, individual primary journals for students to write and draw, and a take home folder.

Helping provide students with general school supplies allows us to alleviate some of the financial burden that comes with school starting - new clothes, shoes, backpack, school supplies, snacks.

This project will give each student a new folder, journal and pair of scissors for academic success in kindergarten.
