Creech Road Elementary requests funds to purchase the Be Active North Carolina's Active Steps Youth Program (ASYP) kit and additional “steps-only” pedometers. The pedometers will be integrated into multiple activities throughout the school day to promote physical activity. The Creech Road Elementary 'Breakfast Club' - a morning walking club for students, parents, grandparents and staff - is a school-wide effort to provide a safe environment for families to be active together. Pedometers will enable participants to monitor their activity and will assist them in setting activity goals as distances will be logged online. Further, the ASYP kit will be used in regular physical education classes, and the additional set of pedometers will be available for classroom checkout for integrative academic activities and for use during recess. Creech Road Elementary School, located in Garner, North Carolina has a current enrollment of 825 students. Over half of the students receive free or reduced lunch, and currently, about 20% of the population is designated ESL. We recognize the prevalence of childhood overweight and continue to seek fun ways to promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles. Additionally, we recognize the significant impact that role models can have in a young child's life. We are excited to offer an opportunity for children, parents and staff to participate in a school-sponsored activity to promote an increase in physical activity.
