This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
It's rare that students are able to bridge the beauty of Walt Whitman with a modern day classic by John Green.
My school is perhaps the most diverse school you will ever find.
Although a small school, there are over thirty nationalities represented. They also range widely in economic status. Yet they are extremely tolerant and have learned to accept and care for one another.
My Project
By joining these two books, students will be able to analyze the American dream from a perspective they haven't explored before. It will enable my class to think of this country not just from a capitalist perspective, but a land of wonder, beauty and redemption. My students need a class set of Leaves on the Grass and Paper Towns.
This is an opportunity for students to imagine and envision a world through two unique works and understand the beauty of the wondrous world around them through the views of two authors who have written seminal works for their times.
