Our art students come from a variety of socioeconomic, cultural, and artistic backgrounds. Some of our students come to us and have never created art. I work hard to incorporate art creation, aesthetics, art history, and art criticism into my students' lessons and make it my personal goal for these kids to enjoy walking into the art room to create! In our art room, we make connections to the core areas (math, reading, social studies, science and writing) so students see that art connects to many parts of our lives.
Our art students are always creating, doodling, drawing, sculpting, folding, carving, critiquing, analyzing, comparing and learning!
We are a busy classroom!
My Project
We are excited to embark on a monoprinting journey in our art classes! We have block printed before, and sometimes carving is tough for some of our students who struggle with fine motor skills.
ALL students of ALL abilities can use these Gelli Plates to create monoprints!
Students create monoprints by adding paint to the gel plate and creating designs in the paint with stencils and rubber tools. Then, the designs can be transferred to paper, fabric, and more! No two prints are alike! Students can overlap designs, too!
Monoprinting teaches students to build on works, carefully consider composition and color choices, and adjust when mistakes happen. Gelli printing is a fluid process and allows students to create beautiful art at their ability levels. The nature of Gelli printing allows students to stretch their creativity and ideas, and push them outside their normal art making comfort zone! Can you help me give my students this amazing opportunity in our art room?
