Our school is considered a Title I school. Many of the children live in low-income housing, hotels, and some are even in shelters. For some, English is their second language and some have experienced traumatic experiences that most of us can hardly comprehend. Some have special needs and each and every student at our school qualifies for free breakfast and free lunch. However, they come to school every day with a desire to learn and have fun! In the past, our district had a wonderful site called Raz-Kids and it was amazing and the children thrived using it. However, they have not renewed the district-wide license and at this time there are few choices for digital access to books.
I would love to give my children access to this website filled with hundreds of fun, fiction, nonfiction, and leveled books that are also printable!
On the Raz-Kids site, each book from level A and up has three parts. First, the book is read to the child highlighting each word, then the child reads it, then takes a quick quiz for comprehension. I can also assign books to each child making it personable learning. There are alphabet and high-frequency word books as well. I plan to also print many of their favorites to have a physical copy in their hands. This will be a win-win for my students!
