My Students
My students reside in a high poverty stricken environment. Our school is a Title I school that services the surrounding community. Every student receives free breakfast and lunch everyday. Unfortunately, these two meals may be the only meal most of our students receive.
My class motto is Even though I may learn differently, TEACH ME.
I service students with learning disabilities ranging from ADHD, SLD,ID or FD. The obstacles my students are faced with on a daily basis would make the average adult crumble, but my students adapt and keep pushing forward.
My goal is to give each of my students an environment that is inviting & relaxing but conducive to learning.
My Project
A calm soothing atmosphere creates a learning environment that is inviting for students and provides a warm and caring classroom. Our day consist of smooth instrumental jazz playing while we complete our "Do Now" and shift into our comprehension skills or phonics lesson. Our minds are in a good place so how we sit should be also. Instead of hard seats, my students can sit in comfort. The whole child can be relaxed and feel at peace. Some of my students may only receive peace, comfort and relaxation in my classroom because outside of school their lives are totally different. During independent reading, my students can record themselves reading and track their progress from struggling reader to fluent reader.
