My Project

Our students are resilient and musically gifted. With this project, I hope to help them connect with the rich legacy of African American musicians that they are a part of. We are located in the city of Chicago, a place steeped in musical tradition. Seeing historic images of jazz and blues artists on a regular basis will inspire pride in their unique and powerful identities as Black Chicagoans.

My students deserve a music space that speaks to them, and which they can see themselves.

These posters and wall hangings featuring Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Jimi Hendrix, Tupac, Louis Armstrong, and more will inspire my students and spark their desire to study music. Seeing images of Black musicians from throughout history playing a variety of instruments will encourage my students to find their voice.
