My students need playground balls, a Hokki Stool, three iPad styluses, and eight headphone splitters to be active learners.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are full of energy! They love to run, jump, and play any game that includes a ball. In the classroom they are most focused when they have an opportunity to move. Unfortunately, we are now down to one ragged basketball for the rest of the year and our ball chairs are down to two.
I teach a very diverse group of second and third graders.
Fourteen of my twenty-six students are Latino, nine are African American, and three are Asian. About half of my students are English learners. All of my students function best when they have a chance to be active. They prefer games where they get to run, jump, and toss a ball. In the classroom, if given a choice, they prefer to stand, sit on the rug or on a balance ball chair, than remain in their school-issued chairs.
Most of my students come from working class families. My students' families are highly interested and involved in their children's educations. As a school community, however, we need assistance to obtain materials to enrich student learning.
My Project
The playground balls you are helping fund will allow my students to enjoy recess once again. Due to normal wear and tear, we are now down to only one ragged basketball and our school does not have the money to purchase any more balls. Your donation will fund playground balls so that my students can play basketball, soccer, handball, and kickball during recess and lunch.
The Hokki Stool I am requesting will replace one of the balance ball chairs we have lost due to wear and tear. A Hokki Stool is an ergonomic stool that allows students to sit and move at the same time. This stool will be an asset for those of my students who have a difficult time staying in their seats. It will keep them active while allowing them to better focus on learning.
The earphone splitters and iPad styluses will allow my students to be active members of small groups. They will be able to listen to short, BrainPOP videos with a partner then use the styluses to take digital notes on their learning.
The materials I am requesting have the double advantage of helping my students improve their physical health while at them same time allowing them to better focus on learning.
More than half of students from low‑income households
