This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students live in an urban setting of New England. The majority of my students are African American and Hispanic with more than 70% of them eligible for free or reduced meals. Many live in shelters or government project areas where the drugs and guns are the issues.

Some students live with foster parents with little or no chance to see their biological parents.

Some students only come during meal times so they can have a free meal that they can't get elsewhere. General speaking, they raise up by themselves with very limited guidance. With such kind of living environment, the school puts a large amount of budgets to support student meals and other basic living necessities. The teacher’s supply budget has to be cut off. We buy classroom supplies to support our own classes.

Even though our graduate rate is around 77%, I still truly believe that my students could achieve as much as the other corners of the world where the kids have more up to date school materials and supports. My intention is to get normal classroom supplies so that my students can have a better learning environment and experience.

My Project

My students have been used iXL online drills everyday for all my high school math courses in the past 6.5 years. The outcomes are awesome-they could do a lot of more than the paper-versioned assignments; they could do anywhere, anytime whenever they have time and be able to get the WiFi. They also can go upper or lower levels according to their real situations with the fundamental needed to solving the specific problems. It designs for the age- appropriate, game-likes, colorful interface that kids love! and it has the analysis tools for teachers to find the problems instantly so that we could solve them on the spots. It is also a great evidence to prove to the parents what and when their children did. Therefore, I ask everyone here for support each year.
