As our first semester is coming to an end, it is time to start thinking of ways to keep our students engaged in that "mid-year" slump! Our teachers are working super hard to provide our students with highly-qualified instructional material that hits those Depth of Knowledge Type 2 and 3 questions. These questions expect students to be able to apply their understanding. The struggle we have encountered is not enough practice is given before they are expected to apply.
Enter IXL to the rescue!
Our district recently re-subscribed to this online practice platform.
Students have been highly successful with it in the past. As teachers wanting to incorporate more intervention and small group time, we needed this activity so students can work independently. To keep our students motivated to continue practicing, we are hoping to implement our student-designed IXL Bingo cards that allows them to work on various skills, meet their smart goal of 80 points, and then mark that skill on their bingo cards. Additionally to keep them going, we are implementing our IXL Squares board for students who complete the whole card. These students pick a square to put their name on and once the board is full, teachers draw for bigger prizes. The goal of this project is two-fold: provide our students the art supplies needed for them to create and maintain their bingo cards. We are asking for items like printer ink, paper and pens. We are also asking for snack items to supply our food cart with reward incentives so they will work hard. It is our hope that as they invest in creating their own personal cards and complete the practices for prizes, they will see that their hard work also gives them a sense of confidence and a positive work mindset. Please help our students receive the resources to make them want more IXL B-I-N-G-O!
