I teach math and science to a wonderful inquisitive group of 5th graders. Teaching four sections total, two math and two science to 47 students daily has created so many awesome opportunities to combine STEM activities with the Florida Sunshine State Standards. Coming from NY, there are vast differences in the culture, community, weather (haha), and even the curriculum standards. One thing that is the same; however is their desire to learn and their need for both guided and explicit direction during learning.
Keeping my students engaged and excited about learning has become my main focus and I will stop and nothing to design and implement techniques that allow kids to truly enjoy entering my classroom every day!
Students need models, scaffolds, examples, anchor charts, and creative expressions surrounding them in their classroom environment. They need to be able to move freely around the room, and also be able to write anything and everything wherever they may be. They need me, as their teacher, to be a true wild card and engage them, challenge them, and inspire them.
My Project
Get Your Teach On is a conference dedicated to create a complete engagement experience specifically for teachers to help them feel empowered, motivated, and prepared to create dynamic lessons that will be challenging and rigorous for students all while creating an authentic love for learning that can last a lifetime.
This is a conference comprised of thousands of educators from around the world sharing, supporting, and immersing themselves in a community that strives to create classrooms and lessons in which students are motivated and EXCITED about learning each day.
This project funds the registration for the 4 day conference while I will be working on saving for travel, accommodations, and food. Every small amount can help me get there and I am so excited to be so much closer to the event this year that I won't have to think about purchasing flight tickets! (Conference is in Orlando, FL)
There is specialized training, keynote speakers, research-based workshops, hands-on experiences, and collaborative learning opportunities with other like-minded educators.
Professional Development costs and educator salaries are not always at the top of the government's list when thinking about how to improve education for our future, our kids. Unfortunately, great professional development opportunities for teachers rarely are free, and the truth is we need help. I need help. It is always difficult for me to ask for it, but I am always so grateful when I build up the courage to, and are met with resounding generosity.
I've just GOT to get to GET YOUR TEACH ON! There is so much I need to keep learning on how to constantly create the very BEST for our kids!
