This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is most important," Bill Gates said, and I try to find innovative ways to teach daily.

We have a diverse population, seventy-five percent of of which fall under the socioeconomically disadvantaged.

We are also a Program Improvement school and have been one for six plus years now. Through the years we've had to make some drastic changes to our school to try to improve our student success rate. Nowadays,many of our students are required to take two periods of both language arts and math courses to help them in their studies, which leaves little room for electives. Because we have such a dedicated staff, we organize after school clubs and events to give them something to look forward to.

My Project

I would like my students to see that there is more to Algebra than reading out of a textbook and taking notes all day. With the use of this tablet, I will be able to "flip" the classroom around and allow them to be the teachers instead of me always being at the front of the room. It will allow me to teach from anywhere in the room while keeping my students attention. They will be able to participate in class from their own seats causing less distraction. I am hoping that they will improve their presentation skills by participating in whole class discussions. As I become more mobile, I'm able to get to individuals quicker while keeping the lesson going. I will have more opportunity to introduce student led activities to reinforce what we've learned for the day.

Like any good educator we want to help our students succeed, but with outdated technology resources, you must make do with what you have.

I want to modernize my classroom so that students can see how we are teaching to improve their lives. It's so important to show that school is not archaic, but will prepare our kids for the future. They need to see that what we do in the classroom will prepare them for the 21st Century career.
