Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a wonderful class of fifth grade students in a title I school in Richmond Hill, Queens. My students are a mixture of special education students and general education students and come from diverse backgrounds. They are all eager to learn and explore the world.

My Project

The 2020-2021 school year is set to look different from any year before it. Students will be expected to fully participate in their education in one of many formats, but all will include at portion of work being completed at home.

Working from home creates its own set of problems, many of which include students not having the materials they need to successfully navigate their math, reading and writing work.

This project looks to level the playing field by supplying students with some basic materials to help them complete their work.

Dry erase materials like erasable sheets, markers and erasers will allow students to explore and show their math strategies, practice their writing and jot down their thoughts. Students managed to do so much when schools shut down abruptly and they were stuck at home with nothing. Imagine what they can do it they have access to their own math manipulatives that they can keep at home.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
