My Project

My students are great about taking interactive notes. However, they lose their work because they do not have composition notebooks, binders or folders to organize and keep their resources. Those who bring in their own composition notebooks know that they have all their resources in one place and take pride in their work. Math journals give students a safe place to make mistakes, which is essential to improving in math. In our class, "Mistakes are expected, respected, inspected, corrected." However, those who do not bring in math journals do it on loose leaves of paper and no longer have a record of their great work. Having a journal where they can show their thinking process and explain areas of strengths and areas of need will alleviate the pressure to get the correct answer because the process is important. When there are so many unknowns in their lives, I'd like students to feel a sense of pride in their accomplishments at school! I tell students that life is like math: when there are many variables, tackle them one at a time to solve your problems!
