Our school has a high poverty population and many of the students don't have books at home. Often I have asked students to read at home and their response is they have no books at home. This is why it's important for me to provide as many books as possible to my students.
My class consists of 22 amazing second graders.
Of the 22 students, there is a variety of reading levels and reading interests. Our school is a Title I school. For so many of the students, school is the only place they have access to books. My students love nonfiction books. Nonfiction books are a great way to peak the interest of those reluctant readers.
My Project
Students love reading nonfiction books. I would like to add nonfiction books to my classroom library. We have some books but not as many as I would like to have for the students. Nonfiction books can be used in many different ways. The students would have everyday access to the nonfiction books. The books would also be used to integrate science and social studies into lessons. The addition of the nonfiction books would help to reach those struggling and reluctant readers.
My students would love to have classroom access to additional nonfiction titles.
I want to be able to give my students access to a variety of reading materials. The nonfiction books would expand the reading choices for my students. If I can provide more nonfiction books for my students, there is a better chance that I will reach those struggling and reluctant readers. I want make reading fun and enjoyable for my students.
