The theater is about the journey, not the destination. As a Title I school teacher, involved in Theater Arts, I want to allow my students to express themselves artistically, share their ideas and emotions about the issues impacting their lives, and collaborate with their classmates.
Faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom, and returning after the pandemic students have felt a disconnect from their peers and uncertainty about their future.
Theater helps students find their voice in difficult conversations, imagine creative solutions to big challenges, and find community.
I wish to provide my students with hands-on engagement for problem-solving, communication, confidence and building a community that they have been unable to get in the present times of the pandemic.
This school year, these microphones, stage lights, and walkie-talkie systems will help students problem-solve, communicate appropriately with peers, and the development of self-confidence through theatrical performance. The classroom will continue to be the students' stage as these microphones, speakers, stage lights, and sound mixers will be used year after year to reinforce these skills.
