This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My second graders are naturally inquisitive and eager to learn more about everything we discuss in class. They are a diverse group, with many individual needs. It's often a challenge to meet these needs with limited resources.
In spite of all the obstacles, they are eager and enthusiastic learners who light up when they learn something new!
It is amazing to watch my students when they make a connection and get so excited. My job is to eliminate as many hurdles as possible to allow them to make those connections.
My Project
Students will be excited to be able to choose different types of seats throughout the day depending on their needs. Many students need movement in order to focus on their work and wobble stools are perfect for that. Bean bag chairs and floor seats are easily moved and will give us the freedom to move in and out of small groups to work collaboratively. Floor chairs can create space for groups throughout the room where partners can be engaged and focused. The clipboards become essential in creating portable writing surfaces. All of these choices encourage movement without the need to wander the room. The result is more engagement and higher quality work.
