My students need books that will carry them into middle school.

My students are a bright bunch, that are hungry for knowledge. They come to class with questions and real-life connections to the work that we do. It is so awesome to see them grow in the content of English language arts. I am excited about this year, as it will be a group of new faces. We will have a chance to start new and exciting projects around reading and writing.
My students deserve the best.
I want them to know that all facets of the work and classroom environment are to benefit their future. In high need schools, it can be difficult trying to supply everything on your own dime. In addition, the need may go above and beyond your ability. I know my children will have bright futures. They see beyond their current status, which gives me a strong sense of confidence in them.
My students have been working hard this year. In an effort to provide a variety of literature they have found their voice. They are able to articulate what they like or do not like about a book and are more excited to choose new books. Aside from teaching them standard content, I want to nurture a desire to read. Having text that is a representation of them has been a great factor in the increased reading. I love having conversations with them about the text they have read for independent reading. In addition, guided reading is much more enjoyable.
These students have made me a better teacher.
Their genuine thirst for knowledge has transformed my practice. I want these books as they resonate with my students as well as will continue to foster their love of reading. This is my last chance to impact their lives by giving them a book for promotion. I want them to have something exciting and important to read over the summer. I chose a variety of books because my students are unique. The bookmarks are a small token of appreciation of the hard work. All of them will get an inspirational note inside of their book. This is important to me as the transition from elementary to middle school is a big one. I want them to continue to feel encouraged and supported as they look towards their future. It has been an honor to teach them for the past two years.
