"Going Above and Beyond" is the expectation and the goal for everyone in my classroom, including the teacher! We strive every day, on every project, on every assignment, in our behavior and work habits to epitomize this statement. Working cooperatively is a huge part of this goal.
My classroom is filled each day with twenty-four fourth graders exhibiting a full range of reading and math abilities.
The classroom is full of activity as we fill every minute working toward academic excellence, and trying to have fun at the same time. Our school is a small STEM magnet school drawing students from a large area so they come from many different cultures and socioeconomic levels.
My Project
Getting students actively engaged in learning is a challenge I face every school day. After recently attending the Ron Clark Academy, I realize even more the importance of making my classroom a place that exudes excitement and surprises. I have been inspired to combine rigorous instruction with interesting presentation methods. To add pizzazz to my lessons, I need a tabletop color wheel and Eggspert buzzers and tumbling timbers to captivate my students in learning that keeps them engaged from bell to bell. Instead of using workbooks and worksheets to review, we will play Greek Roots Twister or Figurative Language cornhole toss.
My students will be excited to walk into my classroom each morning, knowing that their day will be filled with engaging learning activities to make each day different from the last.
Learning with these games will also give us opportunities to practice teamwork and cooperative learning. Greater engagement will lead to increased learning which, in turn, creates successful and happy students.
