This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students come to school and they work hard throughout the day. Many of them eat breakfast at school first thing in the morning. After several hours at school, they are ready for a snack.
"It's Snacktime for Students" seeks to provide my second grade students with a daily healthy snack.
My students look forward to their daily snack time at 9:35 am. After 9:15 they start counting down and they tell me how much time to go until snacks. "Mrs. R, it's 9:22 we have 13 minutes till snack-time."
I place all of the individually wrapped snacks in a big tub. The helper of the day passes out hand sanitizer. The students form a line by the tub and choose a snack to enjoy.
During snack time they get to talk freely with their friends. This free-talk time is needed just as much as the snack. Having a daily time to socialize freely and eat a light snack is significant because it gives students an outlet to express themselves. Snack time is a cherished time in my second grade classroom.
