Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are eager and inquisitive learners. They always ask me if what they are learning is going to help them in real life. I am asking for sets of basic sewing materials that my students will use this school year to create a quilt, pillow, bag and other easy projects. In addition, I have asked for two sewing books for them to reference. Sewing is one way that my kids can apply the skills and standards they have learned throughout their academic journey.

Sewing is an art form where students can apply standards in Math, Art, History/Social Science, English Language Arts, and Engineering standards while enhancing important life skills such as perseverance, patience, concentration, and creativity.

They will apply their knowledge of measuring to cut their fabric pieces. When picking fabrics, they will apply their knowledge of colors, shapes, patterns, texture and take into consideration the story their quilt will tell. These basic materials are essential to get their sewing projects completed. The process and end product will help them understand that the skills and standards they are learning will, in fact, help them in real life.
