It's Rhyme Time!

My students need hands-on rhyming games such as a rhyming phonics train, rhyming teaching tubs, and a rhyming sounds phonemic awareness box to help jump start their kindergarten year off on the right track!

My Students

Cat - bat - ring. Which two words do you think rhyme? Learning how to identify rhyming words can be so fun and exciting, but at the same time, stressful! I love when students realize they can rhyme because that makes them realize they can read!

My students live in a high-poverty neighborhood in Virginia where the majority of their education is learned only in the classroom.

They attend a school that has a 90% free or reduced price lunch rate, and sometimes the meals at school are the only food they will eat all day. My school is in the middle of a high-crime neighborhood, and most of my students come from single-family homes. Providing a stable, trustworthy, caring, fun atmosphere for my students is all they ask, and I do all I can to make those dreams come true.

My Project

I am requesting four different rhyming games that are all hands-on and super fun! I have requested a set of ten plastic rhyming tubs that come with forty-three different manipulatives for students to sort according to the label on each tub. I am also asking for a rhyming game that has a group of picture tiles that my students will match to the correct train engine. There is also a rhyming box that comes with ten cards and manipulatives. Students have to find the three correct toys to match each card. Finally, I have asked for a game that should make identifying rhyming words a snap! Students will find three words that rhyme and have to snap them together to make a set. All of these games are so hands-on and colorful that my kiddos will love them! These games will be taught and used in reading groups, as well as put in reading task baskets to work on with a buddy. By having these games, it will provide a fun way for students to learn how to rhyme and read!

Working in this neighborhood, school isn't always a top priority.

However, I feel it is still my job to not only show my kids how much I care about them, but also how school shouldn't be stressful, it should be enjoyable! These games will take learning how to rhyme to the next level! They are so fun that when students are playing the games, they won't even realize they're learning at the same time. The smile on their faces after they successfully complete a game will be priceless!
