This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds and face many different challenges in their day to day lives. There are many single income families and families that are receiving assistance in one form or another. Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with a smile on their face. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
My students are in need of indoor recess activities like board games and floor puzzles. During the cold and rainy months they are unable to get outside often. The students are stuck in the classroom with little to do to entertain themselves and stretch their minds if not their bodies. The students need a Trouble game, Candyland game, Geo set, Dominoes, floor puzzles in a few styles, and different card games to keep them busy on days they can not make it outside.
Who doesn't feel better after a good game of Trouble, cards, completing a puzzle or building.
I need my students to relax, re-energize and be ready to conquer their afternoon. When they have a good recess, whether inside or outside, they have a better, more productive afternoon. The students also learn valuable social skills while playing like taking turns, compromise, and fairness without even knowing it. The indoor recess materials would help my students throughout the year.
