My Students

Loading...Loading. This is what my students encounter every time they try to log into their favorite educational programs. Technology allows them to be responsible for their own learning. My students love to use computers; however, my outdated computers can no longer handle today's programs.

My 24 first grade students come to school every day with a smile and a desire to learn, despite coming from a high poverty area.

Technology helps to fuel that desire and to meet the diverse needs of all my students, despite their home situation. With the implementation of the new state standards, compass evaluations, and PARCC testing, the rigor and achievement levels expected of my students has been raised. Using technology, I can address the individual needs of my students through Google Apps for Education, which will allow them to reach their full potential. After attending a technology conference, I realized just how lacking our school is when it comes to technology in the classroom. I want to give my students every opportunity to be successful, and a new laptop, when used as a teaching and monitoring tool, can help them be just that!

My Project

My students would benefit from having a HP laptop, which would be placed into a functional technology center in my classroom. My ultimate goal is to have a set of 4 laptops in a technology learning center, where students will have access to Google Apps for Education. These apps will allow the students to learn at their own pace, while enhancing reading and math skills. Students will be able to demonstrate their knowledge in fun, creative ways, such as cartoon animations, interactive mind maps, and "glogs." They offer the rigor, engagement, and thought processes required by our state standards. As a teacher, I will also be able to track and monitor student progress, which is huge! I will then be able to tailor mini-lessons to be used during small group instruction to increase student understanding and ultimately student success.

The use of laptops in my class will increase engagement and learning. By monitoring student progress, my lessons will be enhanced by allowing me to individualize my instruction to meet each student's needs. Thanks for caring enough to donate.
