My students need reading and math games to work on during independent work stations. They need games that are free from ads or unsafe internet content.

My Students
In today's world it is vital that children learn technology skills as they evolve- even in first grade! However, technology is changing faster than schools are able to keep up with and that is where you come in!
I teach a 1st grade class of 24 awesome children in a low-income high-need school.
My class is made up of a diverse group of children ready to learn. My class has a wide range of academic skills: from children with little background knowledge due to limited experiences to gifted and talented students who are working 1-2 grades above level! I have children that come to school without any school supplies or lunch money; 85% of my school is on the free or reduced lunch program.
As class sizes grow and aides or paraprofessionals become less prevalent, teachers must be creative in finding ways to keep students engaged yet on task while working in small groups. In my classroom, I utilize independent work stations. One of the stations that is most popular is the computer station. As the internet has become more popular, ads and unsafe content have increased too. It has become increasingly harder for me to find safe and educational sites that students can navigate on their own.
My Project
With these games, my students will be able to practice reading, phonics, vocabulary, sight words, math facts, and many other skills using interactive games. When I am working in small groups my other students need activities that are based on targeted skills at their level that keep them engaged and these games are perfect!
Because I have a wide range of skills in my classroom, I need differentiated activities for my students to be successful. These games work on skills that are necessary from the beginning of the year to the end of the year!
Many of my students do not have access to a computer or even Internet at home.
In order to teach 21st century skills, students need daily access to technology and their school is one place that technology should not be limited! My students love visiting the computer station and I will be so excited they have high quality and engaging activities to help them improve academically while having fun!
